After various rumors and reports, Google has revealed Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which was earlier supposed to be Android 5.0. Google came up with Jelly Bean last week at Google I/O 2012, where new products like Nexus Q and Nexus 7 Tablet were announced. Apart from all these, Google redefined many of its products with many improvements and features. Let’s now take a close look at Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
Google focuses on better UI and refinement of various features that were earlier launched in Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Coming down to all features first of all we’ll talk about
Project Butter And Performance
Android 4.1 is equipped with Project Butter which actually meant higher frame rate and triple buffering. It will make all features run smoothly and will provide a smooth experience to its users. Check out the video below provided by Google to checkout the difference between Android 4.0 and 4.1 with smooth experience over Jelly Bean:
Now, Google has just improved it directly, making relatively old hardware feel new again.
Google has provided a new feature called Google Now, which many companies are expecting from this new version of Android. Google tried to create intelligent, constantly updating, ambient information system by giving you information that you were about to search for anyway. Google now gives information which you recently searched or crawled and in actual words it uses your search history to provide you information regarding your search in future. For example if you searched for a music event in your city, then Google Now will remind you about it in future or when it is going to happen. Another example being , as you booked a ticket to travel from one place to another with Airlines, then Google Now will remind you about its departure time, terminal details and it will also give you information if it is delayed. So this new feature is quite interesting. Similarly there are various other features in Google Now which you will get to know about when you use it.
User Interface and Design
The design in Jelly Bean is such a breath of fresh air. The trend of Neon Blue which came into existence from Honeycomb is now fully back lashed as it is now the least seen Colour in the Jelly Bean. Jelly Bean has an understated look that is every bit as identifiable as iOS or Windows Phone. Buttons are now squared off. Google has refined the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich look into Android 4.1 Jelly bean. Other subtle additions since Android 4.0 include more animation, including one for launching and closing apps that pops up from where you tapped. You guys will definitely love it.
Homescreen of Jelly Bean is also improved and new features are here too. Now widgets will resize themselves and now they will automatically move icons around to make space for themselves. If you want to remove a widget, then just toss it and it will get removed. The old hassle of having functionality scattered across on all four corners of the OS is now gone.
There are also changes in the presentation of images and videos in new Android 4 .1 Jelly Bean. Now Gallery and Camera App are fully integrated with each other. Pinch in to zoom out and you’ll be presented with a horizontal “filmstrip view” of your photos which you can flick through. If you want to delete a photo then swipe up to delete it.
Now Android is the best OS in Notifications field. As of now, Jelly Bean came up with Enhanced Notifications which means you can now expand any notification and could take required action from the Notification bar itself. If you want to reply to SMS which you get notified via Notification bar, then open notification and no need to open it, just expand it and respond. Similarly various other App integration and Calendar features are there waiting for you in the Notification bar.
Google Search and Voice Recognition
Google made its search more functional by adding it to Google Now. Google’s Voice Recognition is also improved as Google introduced Offline Voice Recognition with additional features. Now Voice Recognition not only hears you but it also speaks to you. Like if you asked for weather it will answer you by speaking.
There are many other new features which also serve as building blocks for Jelly bean. Now there is a support for custom calendar colors. There is a Sound Search widget which works like soundhound. Now Android users can modify their Apps which are installed on their Device from Desktop by changing Apps status to remove, update or install. Google Maps offline is now available to all Android users which help them to download them on their devices and surf later when connection is not available. By Google Beam now you can also share photos and videos. FaceUnlock also gets a new feature by unlocking device with Blink Detect.
Overall its excellent what came out of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. These new features surely will give Apple a headache to make the new iPhone 5 better than these listed features. It is supposed to be released in October and we are waiting for it. Google also released Nexus 7 Tablet which will run on Jelly Bean. Galaxy Nexus, Motorola Xoom and Nexus S users will get Jelly Bean by the end of next month.
