Samsung Loses Battle, Apple Gets Over 1 Billion Dollar In Patent Suit

After several trials and adjournments, Today US Court ordered Samsung to pay $1.05 billion damages, after ruling that the South Korean firm infringed on some Apple patents in patent infringement trial between Samsung and Apple. Today Jury concluded that Samsung stole the technology from iPad and Iphone.

Earlier Apple claimed that Samsung has copied its design and technology by infringing its six or seven patents (381 patent, 915 patent, 163 patent, etc) in Android Phone line. Last week Judge Lucy Koh and Jury said that Samsung and Apple both destroyed the proofs. In another trial, a South Korean court blamed both the companies, ordering Samsung to stop selling 10 products including its Galaxy S II phone and banning Apple from selling its four different products.

After Court’s Decision the Samsung PR team said that

“Today’s verdict should not be viewed as a win for Apple, but as a loss for the American consumer. It will lead to fewer choices, less innovation, and potentially higher prices. It is unfortunate that patent law can be manipulated to give one company a monopoly over rectangles with rounded corners, or technology that is being improved every day by Samsung and other companies. Consumers have the right to choices, and they know what they are buying when they purchase Samsung products. This is not the final word in this case or in battles being waged in courts and tribunals around the world, some of which have already rejected many of Apple’s claims. Samsung will continue to innovate and offer choices for the consumer.”

On the other side Apple PR Head said:

We are grateful to the jury for their service and for investing the time to listen to our story and we were thrilled to be able to finally tell it. The mountain of evidence presented during the trail showed that Samsung’s copying went far deeper than even we knew. The lawsuits between Apple and Samsung were about much more than patents or money. They were about values. At Apple, we value originality and innovation and pour our lives into making the best products on earth. We make these products to delight our customers, not for our competitors to flagrantly copy. We applaud the court for finding Samsung’s behavior willful and for sending a loud and clear message that stealing isn’t right.

Samsung has been ordered to pay Apple $1.05 billion but this is not the actual loss as Samsung has to pull out all infringed smartphones from US market which would cost them much more than this.

Earlier Bloomberg reported that Apple and Samsung combined, make up for more than half of global smartphone sales. About 22.7 million smartphones and tablets have been sold by Samsung. So now it means the overall sales will also get reduced!

So guys this means that the verdict is a blow to Android as much as Samsung. So now we gonna have fewer phone options?

For me I can this is truly wrong, I will also say this whole patent system truly wrong in US and several other countries. Samsung also replied to the patent system by saying

Unfortunate that patent law can be manipulated to give one company a monopoly over rectangles with rounded corners.

Thank God it’s not in India.

According to me, now let Samsung stop supplying Apple the chips & microprocessors that run iPhones!!
